Phlebotomy instructors often are expected to develop their own teaching materials, activities, and handouts for each course and deliver lectures and lab practicals to students. They must be sensitive to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, learning styles and disabilities of their students and staff; and should be familiar with new technologies and latest industry specific skills and developments in their field.
Most training institutions require that their instructors maintain professional certification and partake in workshops and/or continuing education programs to earn a certain amount of annual CEUs. They must participate in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of activities and sometimes must teach online or hybrid courses to improve the instructional quality of their phlebotomy program. Their annual salary typically ranges between $36,000 - $40,000 (based on education level and work experience).
